14. Rebellion Lives

Version: Task:
  • Return to Paititi
  • Return to Unuratu's Home
  • Find the Rebel Cave
  • Meet Etzli in Upper Paititi
  • Enter the Temple of Kukulkan
  • Reach Unuratu's Prison Cell
  • Enter Unuratu's Prison Cell
Region: The Hidden City

Return to Paititi

Continue towards the edge and jump across the gap. Pull up.
Resource: To the left of the path you can find an endurance plant. Then follow the path on the left downwards. Around the puddle at the end you can find a resource container, rewarding you with +15 XP on the right and some gold ore (+6) in a vein on the left. Head back up.
Scramble up the back wall to grab the ledge. Then jump up and use the axe on the craggy wall to climb up and over to the right. Jump across the gap to the right to reach the next part of the craggy wall. Above you will will find an overhang which you can not climb, since you are missing the overhang climbing gear. Lean over to the right and jump off to reach the ledge there. Squeeze through the gap on the right. Behind the gap Lara will collect the Overhang Climbing Gear from an unfortunate adventurer who died in this cave. You will earn +50 XP. Step towards the edge beyond the rotten tent and jump back towards the craggy wall from here. Climb up and jump to the overhang. Climb straight up and from the ledge you will reach jump up to the top. You will obtain the trophy/achievement New Heights. Run up and to the right where you climb up onto the next ledge. Duck through the tunnel on the left. On the other end jump towards the craggy wall on the left. Climb up and jump to the overhang, where you attach the axe again. Traverse to the right. Perform an "overhang lateral jump" to jump past the gap to the second part of the craggy wall. Climb further right and also jump past the second gap. Climb to the right end. From here what you are supposed to to is to rappel down and swing over to the craggy wall below the ledge on the right, what I always do is to make sure that Lara is looking to the right (and not up) and just jump from the overhang to the ledge. Although Lara stumbles a bit, I have yet to die when using these tactics. Chicken or daredevil? Rappel down or just jump? - Which type are you? Tell us on twitter or facebook. Collect feathers, hardwood and medicine here. Then scramble up the next wall to reach the handhold and then jump up to the craggy wall. Climb up and jump to the overhang. Here traverse to the left, jumping past the gap on the way. Climb to the top and jump up the ledges. A double jump will get you past the gap. From the top ledge jump towards the craggy wall above. Here climb up and to the left. From the left end jump and use the grapple axe while in the air to attach to the far craggy wall. Climb up to the top. On the left you can pick up a resource container with +15 XP. Enter the easily-overlooked opening in the wall at the back. Run through the tunnel and jump down into the water on the other side. There is a focus plant at the mouth of the passage and a second one sits atop the arch in the upper opening. Dive towards the pry barrier and use the axe to clear it out of the way. Dive through and hide in the sea grass. A school of piranhas will circle overhead. Wait for them to pass.stay
Resource: In the opening of the upper right tunnel you find a resource container with +15 XP, but be warned on Deadly Obsession it might not be worth the risk of being eaten by the piranha, because, unless this has been patched since I did it, these piranha will send you back to where you found the shotgun.
Get into the lower right tunnel and dive straight on, moving from sea grass to sea grass to find a pocket of trapped air in the next cave.
Resource: In the area around the air pocket you can find some medicine and a crate with salvage.
Dive into the tunnel, where you come by another endurance plant, then follow it up and squeeze through the gap. Follow the tunnel up to come out in an alcove off the lake in Paititi's fishing district. Lara stores her weapons away and earns +150 XP.

Return to Unuratu's Home

Make your way around the cliff to the right to return to the Fishing District base camp. Run along the huts of the fishing district, past the spot where you found the survival cache up on a ledge on the right. Cross the field.
Conversation (Optional): If you like, you can talk to a man working the field. He will issue a warning to stay out of the wilderness.
Follow the road to the left towards the wooden bridge again and cross it. Once you reach the other side, Jonah will contact you and tell you to come to the skull cave instead of returning to Unuratu's home, it will reveal a point of interest on your map.

Find the Rebel Cave

Head up the stairs to the left of the wooden bridge. Then run to the wall on the right to where you find a rope ladder. Climb this to the top. Turn left. Just beyond the stairs you will find a heron and an eclipse depicted on the cliff wall and the cave opening just to the left of it. Squeeze through to enter the skull cave. Head down the stairs into the cave.
Lara reports to Jonah that the box was taken and that Unuratu has been captures. Jonah already knows that and tells Lara that Uchu, Etzli and him are already working on a plan. Etzli is awaiting Lara in Upper Paititi.

You will obtain +50 XP and the Ceremonial Fire Drill from the artifact collection "Cult of Kukulkan" (4/11), which will improve your knowledge of Yucatec further. It contains a hidden clue. Look at the notches to find that they are clear of blood. Dive back out from under the jetty. [Screenshot], [Screenshot] (map location)
Survival Cache (14/34): When coming out from under the jetty, swim over to the other side of the boat house on the right. Dive down and find the next Survival Cache for +25 XP in the niche here. [Screenshot], [Screenshot], [Screenshot] (map location)
Mural (8/23): While still in the water swim in the direction of the waterfalls. On the ground of the lake all around you can collect a variety of plants. It is Viracocha from the artifact collection "Pantheon of Gods 2" (7/8) and will improve your knowledge of Quechua, as well as reward you with +35 XP. Return to the surface and then to the jetty. Remember: cross the wooden bridge, take up the first set of stairs to the left, climb up the rope ladder and find the entrance to the left of the next set of stairs. Speak to Poma, found over on the left, up on the elevated level, again. You will receive the Vestige: Ch'amaka's Greaves and +300 gold pieces. After finishing this part of the mission, Poma gives Lara another task, to find and save Colqui.

Solve Sumaq's Murder
Make your way up the short set of stairs to Sumaq's house and, while dressed in the Serpent Guard outfit, speak to the guard there. He tells Lara that he is keeping out the crowd. You need to find a way to distract them. Run down the stairs to return to the cave tunnels again. Speak to the Paititian with the death whistle at the foot of the stairs to make him sound the call of mourning. This will disperse the crowd, allowing you to enter the house where the murder has taken place. Lara speaks to the guard again, questioning him about the murder. He will tell Lara that Taruca, the servant is suspected of the murder, as he was found with his hands drenched in blood standing over the victim. Speak to Taruca, whom you'll find with his hands bound just behind the guard. He will insist that he is innocent. He tells Lara that he heard a gate slamming shut when he returned home and found Sumaq stabbed. He says he tried to stop the bleeding but it was already too late. Climb up to the next level on the left. Here speak to the Xoco, the widow standing by the back exit. She will tell you that she was at the market with Akna, her servant when the murder happened and that when she returned home, she found Taruca in the kitchen, standing over Sumaq. When asked if he was holding a weapon, she will deny it. And she will also not corroborate Sumaqs statement that he heard a door slamming. Next speak to the guard investigating Sumaq's body. He will tell Lara that Sumaq was stabbed with something pointy and sharp repeatedly. He tells her that the murder weapon is gone. Now examine Sumaq's body. Lara will notice that there is not much blood around for a stab wound. Examine the trail of blood on the floor, which tells Lara that the body was moved. Follow the trail out through the back door, where there are more bloody tracks on the floor. Behind the gate at the top of the stairs you will find Akna. She claims to know nothing and that the gate she is behind does not open and has been broken for a while. Akna will stop talking to Lara, leaving her no choice but to find a way around the gate. Get back into the house and exit it through the front door. Turn right and when you reach the stairs leading down, face the wall on the right and scramble up. You will encounter a woman you can speak with. She will reveal that Sumaq and Xoco's marriage was troubled and that Xoco had eyes for Ikal, Sumaq's business partner. Pick up the resource container with +15 XP in the hut behind her, before you continue. Then head around the hut on the left side. At the end of the ledge you will find another next with condor feathers for the challenge "Keep Calm and Carrion", in case you did not complete it yet. Balance out onto the protruding beam and turn right. Jump to the second beam and from there towards the craggy wall. Attach the axe and climb up.

You are rewarded with +25 XP and improve your knowledge of Yucatec. It contains hidden information, so examine the edge closely on the inventory screen. After finding the knife, Akna will confess that her mistress was not at the market during the murder and that she told her to hide the bloody knife.
Return to Taruca's Guard
Enter the hut and examine the left wall to find the murder scene.

Over on the right you can crawl through a gap in the door. On the right side you can collect some gold ore (+5). Step out into the passage on the left and turn left again. At the end you will find a resource container with +15 XP. Crawl through the opening on the right.

Once you finish the fight, the mission is completed and you earn +750 XP. Leave the chamber through the narrow gap behind the altar again, then follow the passage and crawl back into the previous part of the passage. Return outside.

Now run up the stairs to the left of the barricaded passage (west). On the landing you can grab a resource container for +15 XP. Follow the bend around to the left and run up the next set of stairs. Crawl through the narrow opening to come out in a puzzle area.
Puzzle
The the right you can pick up some medicine and on the left is some black powder for Lara to collect. The puzzle consists of mirrors and rotating ledges. The mirrors are numbered, note the little bars on the front side, at the top. I will number the ledges as follows: L stands for left, C stands for centre, R stands for right as seen from the entrance, they are numbered 1, 2, and 3 from front to back. Get to the mirror (1) and turn it anti-clockwise so it no longer directs its beam to the central pavilion, but to the crystal of the left rotating ledge (C1). [Screenshot]

Step out onto the protruding ledge on the left (east) and jump up to the newly positioned ledge. Climb up and balance across to reach the other side. Hop down. Grab the handle of the next mirror (2) here and turn it slightly clockwise to point it at the crystal of the rotating ledge (R2) in the far corner. [Screenshot]

Now it's time for some backtracking. Use the ledge C1 to return to mirror (1). Now rotate mirror (1) clockwise to direct its beam to the crystal of ledge R1 which will swing around to point at your current location. [Screenshot]

Step out onto the protruding rock to the right of mirror (1) and jump up to the ledge R1. Balance across and hop down onto the platform. Step out onto the next protruding rock and jump up to ledge R2. Again balance across. At the end jump to the branch and use it to swing to the ledge of the column at the back. Drop down to the platform to reach mirror (3). Grab the handle and turn mirror (3) anti-clockwise to direct its beam away from the pavilion and towards the nearby ledge R2 to create a path back. [Screenshot]

Jump towards the craggy wall to the left of the mirror and attach the axe. Scramble up to reach the handhold above. Climb to the right end and from there jump towards the rotating ledge (R2). Pull up and balance across, then hop down onto the platform between ledges R2 and R1. Step out onto the protruding rock and jump up to reach ledge R1. Balance across and hop down to mirror (1) again. Rotate mirror (1) anti-clockwise again to point it at the crystal of ledge C1 once more, just like at the beginning. [Screenshot]

Once more use the jutting rock to reach the rotating ledge C1 and balance to the other side to reach mirror (2). Rotate mirror (2) clockwise to redirect the beam of light to point at the lower crystal of the rotating ledge you just used to cross the stream (C1), making mirror (1) redundant. [Screenshot]

Climb back across the rotating ledge (C1) to return to mirror (1). Rotate mirror (1) clockwise to direct its beam straight through the pavilion into the crystal of the rotating ledge (L2) in the far distance. [Screenshot]

Again cross over to mirror (2) by using the rotating ledge (C1) which is held in place by the 2nd mirror. Rotate mirror (2) anti-clockwise to redirect the beam of light to the crystal of the rotating ledge on the left (L1). This will allow you to cross over the next rotating ledge. [Screenshot]

Climb onto the elevated level at the back wall, where you can grab another resource container for +15 XP, and from there jump up to the rotating ledge (L1). Balance to the other side and hop down. The passage on the left is the exit. Step out onto the next protruding rock and jump towards the only rotating ledge you have not used yet L2. Balance across and from the end jump towards the wooden beam. Drop safely to the ground to reach mirror (4).
Mural (14/23): In the left corner you will find the next mural Fertility God from the set "Pantheon of Gods 3" (5/7). You will obtain +35 XP and improve your knowledge of Mam. [Screenshot], [Screenshot] (map location)
Now rotate mirror (4) anti-clockwise to redirect the beam to the rotating ledge closest to the tomb stele (C3). [Screenshot]

Scramble up the back wall (east) to reach the handholds there. Climb to the left end, where you can climb up to the stone ledge and traverse around the corner to the left. From the end jump back to the rotating ledge (L2). Balance across and jump back to the platform with the exit. Follow the walkway to the pavilion and hop onto its platform. Turn left and jump to the rotating ledge (C2). Pull up and balance across. From the end jump to the next rotating ledge (C3) and balance across this one as well.
